Island Villa

Project ö, Finland

ö, Swedish for Island

First step, buy the island on which the villa exists located on the edge of a national park, mission accomplished in 2018.

With its steep roofs, lengthened gutters and overhanging eaves it pays respect to traditional Finnish island architecture.

The materials used were designed to ensure a smooth visual transition from inside the Villa to outside.

The sauna stove heats the service water and the same system works as the heat source of the underfloor heating. When you spend time here, you can truly feel like a part of the untouched nature.

The island is completely self-sufficient. The electricity is solar power from the island’s own solar panels and the drinking water is purified from seawater. The villa has running water and a normal toilet, heating and cooling and a modern kitchen.

For us, Project Ö was an interesting new enterprise, in which we definitely wanted to participate. Using Kontio’s structures and technical competences, we helped to make the fine architecture possible.

From completion this stunning building won design and architectual awards - the use of some unusual technology in providing the servicing required for living an island life is also worth noting.
