Villa Myötätuuli
Designed in-house for the 2022 Naantali Housing Fair this impressive building is a variation of Kontio's Hill House 124 proving, if it were needed, just how flexible a "standard" design is and open to modification.
The Villa sits onto a partially protected plot so the final design had to be designed to respect the needs of the site itself.
This retake on Hill House 124 brings a touch of luxury making the most of its 156 square metres, included is a large kitchen and dining area, the ubiquitous sauna - a feature totally ignored in the UK despite its well established health benefits.
Upstairs a master bedroom with en-suite, walk in robe and private balcony, with a further double bedroom also including its own private balcony.
The sensitive nature of the plot is assured as log buildings are lightweight structures so require minimal work on the foundations.
The extensive decked areas extend the living area outside with the balconies providing a dual function in protecting the areas below.
The building externally has been finished in colours that harmonise well with the surrounding environment.
Whilst Villa Myötätuuli remains every centimetre a log building, it benefits from an entirely modern approach to design, to manufacture and into building, fast build and, correctly maintained, a building with a lifespan in excess of 100 years.
No surrender either to modern living, underfloor heating is an option, walk-in showers, always large windows and doors to bring in natural light.
Just as the external facades have been selected to blend with the environment, so too have the internal facets, soft, warm colours, well suited to a log home.
This theme is carried on with the interior design, enhanced with strong architectural features such as the log fire and staircase adding modern visual appeal to the interior - form and function.
