Log Campus

World's Largest Log School Building

Suffering from indoor air quality in its public buildings, the city of Pudasjarvi became a leader in the use of log buildings.

Opened in 2016 and accommodating some 700 students the Log Campus as it is known runs to 10,000 square metres.

The First of its Kind

Being the first such log building of its kind required extensive research and planning.

The development of an entirely new (then) means of determining structural solutions as the campus massive log walls and large areas of glazing had to work together in a completely new way.

Quality Improved

Experience with other log buildings, albeit on a smaller scale, had already demonstrated that large scale health benefits should be expected from scaling up with a building constructed on this scale.

The campus offers improved indoor air quality, vastly improved acoustics and a natural balance between temperature and humidity.

Light & Space

The four buildings are connected by glazed corridors with large glazed screens to the entrance and dining area to maximise access to sunlight, in the longer winters.

The use of natural and coloured stains create a pleasant working atmosphere and the use of creative curved timber supports within adds a final flourish to this first of its kind school.
