KONTIO PORTFOLIO
GLASS HOUSES
The difference is clear
Kontio's Glass House portfolio brings additional benefits to the occupier over and above those benefits delivered by using timber logs in the building. Daylight can help reduce energy consumption and contribute to the design of a Net Zero Carbon building by providing a free source of heat and light, in the Glass House collection this is acheived by use of providing large areas of glazing.
The logs store this heat during the day, even in mid-winter - acting as a form of battery, releasing that heat gain during the night. The advantages are obvious and help to make log buildings one of the most energy efficient methods of construction available, but the benefits do not stop there.
Sunlight is important for our health and wellbeing even during winter so it is important that we harness its benefits. Sunlight is vital for many reasons – sleep, concentration, mood and wellbeing, research shows that disturbed sleep can be improved along with productivity and mood. Sunlight helps to stimulate production of melatonin and the process starts as soon as we wake by penetrating a subset of cells behind the eyes which, in turn sends messages to a part of our brain which regulates our circadian rhythm.
The benefits of light in buildings are not limited to our homes but also to our places of work and study where additional gains can include improved productivity in business and education.
From a Garden Room...
There is a glass house to suit many needs, take Glass House 30 as left, it's small enough to fit into modest gardens and can be configured to include room for a sauna.
Scandavians have long understood the health benefits of sauna, for example, these include improved cardiac health, lower levels of stress with some studies showing lower risk in Finnish men of developing dementia or Alzheimers disease.
Functional and flexible.
...to a retirement home
Kontio's glass houses are the perfect home to retire to, flooded with light, open airy spaces, all on one level.
Take Glass House 2 125B as right, two en-suite double bedrooms configured with a suana as standard, open plan accommodation on one level with a large terraced area.
