LOG HOMES
Log Homes - New Thinking?
Log homes with traditional castellated corners and walls are still a part of both traditional design and appeal but even in their home markets they can face planning barriers - especially in urban environments, towns and cities.
Enter Kontio's buildings with a fresh approach to design giving those looking to build their own home, perhaps a holiday let, retirement home even.
For architects and designers looking for new visuals Kontio have the answer - retaining all of the advantages afforded by massive log buildings in buildings that should see few objections from planning.
Flexible
Kontio SmartLog™ confers a unique advantage over other log building manufacturers as they do not settle as they dry.
This gives Kontio's designers and architects alike more design freedom to combine with other building materials, making Kontio stand out from the competition.
Kontio SmartLog™ technology is also perfectly suited to developing low energy buildings, all this with traditional design visuals.

Sustainable
Square logs have seen a transformational move into built up areas, ignoring the many benefits touched on previously for massive wood buildings there are more advantages.
One, the walls are flat, so fitting furniture is no less of a problem than in conventional homes, no plastering or plasterboards, electrics and plumbling are channelled into the logs during design and manufacture. Less time on site by a reduced number of trades and a fast build time.
As lightweight structures, less spoil as foundations are shallower and log homes can be more readily adapted to sloping sites and generally do not require piling.
A Clean Approach to Design
Kontio's design approach ensures that we work with you and your architect.
Kontio take on the design work so far as the building itself is concerned, as an off-site manfactured item all buildings are produced under factory controlled conditions, virtually eliminating delays and design errors on site. All the relevant engineering checks are made so the build process saves time and money.
Onto a prepared site and base, a 100 square metre home can be watertight and ready for second fix in around 14 days. Add into this the reduced number of trades on site and their time spent on site, you use fewer materials, fewer trips to site, create less waste and log homes are lighter so require less spoil removal for foundations and less material in the foundations.
Ticking the environmental boxes from every angle!
